10 Summer Activities in Asheville

Here in Asheville, there are plenty of activities to help squeeze the last bit of fun out of the final days of summer.

1) Get wet! Take the whole family to the Asheville Outdoor Center where you will find canoes, kayaks, rafts, tubes, and stand-up paddleboats to appeal to every water lover.  Or spend a day at a natural waterslide at nearby Pisgah National Forest.

Fishing on Lake in Asheville2) Go fish!  Brush up on your fly fishing skills at Fishwater River Guides.   They offer guided river tours, half day and full day fishing, and have specials through autumn.

3) Take a hike.  Literally.  With mountains “older than the North American continent,” Asheville has a variety of trails for all sorts of interests.  Check out this map of area trails.

4) Wondering what all our mountains look like from above?  Explore the outdoors from a zipline! Asheville Zipline Canopy Adventures offers a year-round facility, set in 150+ year old oak trees.

5) Go mountain biking.  Asheville has trails for beginners though cycling experts.  There are too many bike trails to mention, but the Asheville Visitor Center is a great place to start for more information.

6) Visit the stars. The celestial ones, that is.  The mountains surrounding Asheville offer some of the best perches for gazing up into the sky above.  Try Star Watch Night Vision Tours for guided nightime adventures.

7) Go horseback riding. Saddle up at one of many Asheville trail areas covering 1000’s of scenic acres.

8) Head to an outdoor concert.  From early June through October, Biltmore Park Town Square offers free outdoor music.  For more information, visit Concerts in the Park.

9) Go shopping.  From arts and crafts galleries to retail and antique shops, there really is something for everyone. The Grove Arcade or the Historic Biltmore Village are a couple of places to get started.

10) Visit a museum and/or take a tour.  May we suggest the Asheville Ghost Trolley for the brave at heart?  Or if getting scared is not your thing, there are plenty of other options for everybody.

These are simply ten suggestions.  Really, Asheville offers hundreds more things to do before summer is over.
